It is not that I would change much, however, the most annoying thing about diagrams is the ability of the end user to configure one. We are working at one of the largest pension funds in the Netherlands with about 200 people with technical ability and I have to be called in “every time” there is the need to generate these views. I would love it if Collibra would initiate a user panel for the UI and take us along for the ride. We are more than happy to assist and give time to this topic if needed?

I can certainly see how this would be frustrating. We would love to discuss this further with you. I will help to connect you with our designer who is working on the new experience to dig into this topic more. Thanks so much for sharing!

Hey Ashley - thanks for sharing the survey!

Just want to say that the diagram capability is amazing in it’s current state and is one of capabilities I always point to … I do have some ideas for how they can be improve I’d like to share quickly

I’ll add them to the survey but would also be quite keen to hear other citizens thoughts on them so attaching below:

  • Opening a diagram in a diagram: Imagine a world where you could be looking at Catalog lineage, find a column downstream you’re interested in exploring then open the Guided Stewardship diagram - in the same diagram! I think this would make the diagrams even more interactive and an extension of the already powerful “Start Here” capability
  • API endpoint for Diagram Views and their JSON config: Enables some nice automation of diagrams
  • Folder like structure for view list: The list of views can get incredibly long for some clients, it would be good to be able to logically group these into folders or collapsibles
  • Enable views to be searchable in Global Search: Not sure how this would work but I know many new Collibra users enter Collibra in search of something along the lines of “GCP System Lineage” and are unsure where to start. It would be cool if diagram views for a given asset could be part of the “Search In” field in the Global Search. In the given example, when the user searches for GCP System Lineage, Collibra could return a System Asset called GCP with a link to the associated diagram “System Lineage” which would enable a standard user to search and find system lineage for GCP in only a couple of clicks.
  • Be able to change node shapes: I have worked on a few diagram use cases that have effectively been traditional graph db use cases. I do admittedly yearn for circular nodes for certain diagram types (radial) - it also saves a decent amount of space for larger diagrams
  • Create/Update metadata via diagrams: This could be as simple as being able to add/update content in the diagram preview, but I’m always in favour of a visual approach to managing metadata
  • Be able to increment flow depth more intuitively: I really like the idea of being able set a depth for relations then slowly increase the depth, revealing more content each time but it feels a bit clunky in its current state. Maybe an increment button could help here - I’m also not the biggest fan of the fact that changing the flow depth renders the entire diagram again
  • Make search icon easier to find: The ability to search the nodes in a diagram is a game changer I only realised you could do recently, I’d love it if it were made bigger and bolder
  • Conditional formatting nodes: Colour in diagrams can be quite helpful in telling a story around the data. It would be nice if we could format certain elements of asset nodes (background colour, border colour/width/type, size etc) based on certain conditions such as statuses, articulations scores etc

Thanks so much for sharing this. I will make sure this gets captured as we start to work on Diagrams!

Hello Ashley,
I know this is quite old topic, but I would like to change few things as well.

*be able to specify the default view - currently you can mark multiple views as default and as result none of them is default. I realise this option should have more to choose -> when selecting default it should ask: this asset/ asset type, this domain/domain type, this community.
*preview pane - it would be great to be able to customize this preview pane at least per asset type, like it is available for asset scope.
Thanks
Grzegorz
